 Boardhost: Help: FAQ: Banning Users
q. Someone is being abusive on my board. How can I find their IP address?

a. If you have IP address stamping enabled on your board, the IP address is stamped near the top of each message on your board. If you do not have IP address stamping enabled, you'll be able to find the IP address of the poster in the "Posting Log" in the administration area. The posting log contains the IP address used to post the last 500 messages posted to your board.

q. I've been banning someone, but they keep coming back to my board. What can I do?

a. Most people accessing your board are probably using a dial up modem. Every time they connect, they are assigned a different IP address. Because of this, it can be very difficult to block them from posting to your board. If the person's IP address was 111.22.33.122, you would probably want to enter "111.22.33" as your ban. You can enter as much, or as few of the number as you like. Another option to consider is installing password protection on your board.

q. Is there a way to find out who someone is by their IP address? I need to report them!

a. You cannot easily find out who someone is by their IP address, however you can find out their ISP (Internet Service Provider) in order to report their actions. To find out their ISP, please visit the American Registry for Internet Number and enter their IP address in the "Search Whois" box.
